June 2024: Breaking $50k!
Main goals
We're focusing on paying down the student loans! Deciding the main goals is not completely finance-only-driven – it also depends on emotional peace and how much something is bothering us. Since getting second (and third) part-time jobs, I definitely feel more secure in the short-term future, and so we decided to completely put all extra cents towards paying off the student loans.
Major developments
The biggest struggle for June has been getting used to the new hectic schedule of working every day! Literally! LOL. I was like, ah that's fine, it's only a couple of hours every weekend, but honestly it's been pretty tiring not having a break! I wonder if it gets better and you just get used to having no breaks, or if it'll get progressively worse then I'll reach a breaking point. But then, the part-time job is only open for the summer, so I don't think there'll be any issues of it going on for too long. I think that's a great balance given by a part-time job, being pretty stable but also cyclical.
In financial terms, the extra income brought in by the part-time job has been great, and helped us propel the student loan balances even lower, helping us break into $50k net worth. Yay!
Most days, I still struggle with extreme impatience and want to hit at least our CoastFIRE number already so I can quit my full-time job, but then I think I should at least try to find another well-paying job that I like more, so that I don't have to be so anguished about all the time I'm spending disliking the politics and drama at my job. On the other hand, the job market is still not great, and the world's not doing great in general due to wars, upheaval, and another dramatic Presidential election coming up, so we'll wait and see....
