April 2024: Chugging along
Main goals
Focus more on SO's student loans and slowly complete the full 6-month emergency fund on the side.
Major developments
Last year was pretty crazy in terms of layoffs across different industries and in my own company, so we have been beefing up our emergency fund from the bare bones 3-month one (just enough for our needs) to a 6-month full one (includes our regular monthly spending like dining out and entertainment).
Since things have been calming down a bit for the first quarter of 2024, we decided to slow down on the emergency fund buffer and focus again on the remaining student loans.
It really does help me cope with the mental anxiety of student loans to know that we're making progress on them, slowly, but surely. I just keep looking back at where we were last year, and the year before that, and the progress has been truly awesome!
That doesn't stop me from feeling impatient and wanting it to be over so we can fully focus on getting financially independent, but it will come in time.
